Last Minute Christmas Gifts

Last Minute Christmas Gifts
By Debra Vaughn

Do you have a hard to shop for loved one that you consistently put off
shopping for during the holidays until the last minute? Don't feel bad we
all do. Mine is my husband. There is always something that stands in my
way when it comes to holiday shopping for him. Either I have no clue what
to get him or what he wants is way beyond our financial reach. If this
sounds familiar, try putting some of your heart and imagination into your
gifts for those folks with these ideas. They will appreciate the time and
thought that you put into their gift, so will your bank account!

Life Story

This one is good for those who love to scrapbook or children of any age to
give to Moms and Dads. This is the very simplest of irections. Feel free
to alter, decorate or anything else that will make your loved one's life
story unique. Pick out a few pictures of your loved one starting with a
baby picture, into childhood and the teen years until you reach present
day photos. Next, either use specialty papers that are sold at craft
stores, or construction paper as your pages. Count out one piece of paper
per picture and punch three holes through the paper so that they will fit
nicely into a notebook. Then, using acid free tape or making a home made
paper 'frame' secure one picture to each page. Under each picture write a
caption to that picture that will take your loved one back in time through
memories. Finally, place the pages in the notebook or, if an empty
notebook is not handy, get one piece of poster board, cut it in have and
trim to make the front and back of your book. Be sure to punch 3 holes in
the poster board. Decorate your book cover and end, so that it is pleasant
to the eye of the loved one who is receiving it. If you are using poster
board for the book cover, tie ribbon through each of the holes and score
the straight line in the board for easy opening.

Framed Picture

This one is better for children to give to Mom or Dad. It is simple. Draw
the best picture you can and put it in a frame. Parent of young children
will love it no matter what the picture looks like, while for adults
giving to their parents should not draw stick people, that is unless the
receiving parent likes stick people. One possible variation to this is to
write and frame a poem that is printed out on nice paper.

Cook a Meal

For the overworked chef in the house during the holidays, try giving a
'coupon book' full of coupons valid for one homemade meal, prepared by
you! No, holiday left-overs do not count, but hamburger helper does! (Hint
to my husband, Jamie) Variations of this idea are infinite. Use your
imagination and personalize the coupons to your loved ones needs and
wants.

There are so many gifts that you can give if you use your unique knowledge
of your loved ones. Let your imagination run free and the person who
receives your gift is sure to love it.
